The single greatest aspect of my Humes experience has been the people I have met. I understand that this type of response may not be what this assignment is asking for, but this is my portfolio and this is what I want to talk about. My best friends at Davidson I met on Sapere Aude; I felt that I had a group I could trust before I even got to campus. Already my biggest fear for college was (somewhat) quelled; I had people. When I signed up for Humes, I was excited to learn about philosophers, writers, historical events, and everything else that is included in the humanities. Although that appetite has been satisfied, and the course has been challenging and eye-opening and fun (and un-fun), what has really blown me away is how it gives people the chance to meet each other. Furthermore, I am not alone in this experience; “the Humes boys”, and more, have found a fantastic friend group, in large part, due to this course. Sapere Aude gives people a unique opportunity to form relations without distractions; everyone is in the same course, with the same assignments, living and working together in close proximity. I am excited to see what the trip to Montgomery will be like, and I think it will help form even more good friendships. I feel that this value is overlooked, and I share these pictures in order to represent the fun, happiness and trust that I have found thanks to HUM 103.
